What is the Pelvic Floor?

12/23/2020

Picture
Here we have the beautiful pelvis and the bowl-shaped pelvic floor muscles! Everyone has these muscles, and they play a huge role in body functioning. They support our organs, control of our sphincters for urination and defecation, and they play a role in sexual functioning.

If your muscles are doing their job, you probably don’t even know they are there. When these muscles are weak or damaged, you can have a variety of issues, like leaking pee when you cough or sneeze, if these muscles have increased tension, you may have a hard time pooping, increased urges to pee, or peeing way more than usual. Ladies, you can also experience pain when seeing you gyno, inserting tampons or pain with intimacy.

If any of these symptoms sound familiar to you, ask your doctor if seeing a Pelvic PT is right for you!
