Everyone Poops, but it's not always easy

Constipation can be defined as infrequent bowel movements (less than 3 per week) or passage of hard stools and can present in many ways including abdominal pain, difficulty with bowel movements, changes in bladder frequency, urinary or bowel leakage, decreased appetite, reflux, stool that clogs the toilet, straining, and can even cause urinary leakage.  Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy can be a great adjunct in addition to care from your Primary Care Doctor.

Pelvic Physical Therapy Treatment for Constipation includes a variety of intervention approaches.

Biofeedback assisted training for pelvic floor muscles.
Colonic Massage to help facilitate movement of bowels through the colon.
Coordination Exercises to retrain pelvic muscles to improve passage of bowels.
Diaphragmatic breathing for coordination and lengthening of the pelvic floor muscles.
Joint mobilization and manual therapy to provide optimal alignment of the pelvic region.
Myofascial Release to abdominal and surrounding muscles.
Postural Re-Education for toileting posture.
Therapeutic Exercise to address imbalances such as core and surround muscle weakness or tension.
